Working together on the future of Maritime Airfield De Kooy and Den Helder Airport

The Province of Noord-Holland, the municipality of Den Helder, and the Ministry of Defence are jointly taking a new step in the development of Maritime Airfield De Kooy and Den Helder Airport. On November 14, 2025, State Secretary Gijs Tuinman, Deputy Esther Rommel, and Alderman Fotigui Camara (see photo) signed a letter of intent in which they agreed to reach a broad cooperation agreement in 2026.

The Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management and of Climate and Green Growth are also invited to join.

The collaboration focuses on innovations such as maritime drones and unmanned helicopters, and on sustainability, including facilities for sustainable fuels. Educational institutions, knowledge partners, and the manufacturing industry are actively involved.

Administrators emphasize the regional and national importance of the airfield: from coastal safety and energy transition to economic growth and strengthening the Maritime Cluster.
