Renewal of Den Helder and Texel ferry ports taking shape

The renewal of the ferry ports in Den Helder and Texel is getting closer. Rijkswaterstaat, TESO, the municipality of Den Helder, the municipality of Texel, the province of Noord-Holland, and the Ministry of Defence have agreed to jointly develop the draft designs further.

The goal: a future-proof design that keeps the connection with Texel safe, robust, and easily accessible.
During the administrative consultation on December 4, 2025, it was confirmed that the new landing facility in Den Helder will be located at the head of the parking lot, east of the current location. This will keep the current ferry port operational during construction. In addition, the parties are working on sufficient parking space, better bus connections, and more space for cyclists and pedestrians.

In the coming months, the focus will be on clarifying the financing, developing a construction phasing plan, and intensive coordination between all parties involved. More clarity is expected on the final design and spatial integration around the summer of 2026.
