The municipal council has established the Spatial Framework Buitenveld. This document contains urban planning preconditions and forms the basis for the further development of the area. Buitenveld, near Willemsoord and the Royal Netherlands Naval Academy, will be developed in the coming years as a modern and sustainable accommodation location for personnel of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The spatial framework was drawn up by Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij Zeestad in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Central Government Real Estate Agency. With this, we are taking an important step towards a future-proof Buitenveld that strengthens Den Helder as a naval city.
The adoption by the municipal council follows the administrative consultation Development Maritime Cluster of November 14, 2025.
