Buitenveld Development Framework provides direction for the future of Willemsoord

The municipality of Den Helder, Defence, and the Central Government Real Estate Agency have jointly drawn up a Spatial Development Framework for Buitenveld. This area, near Willemsoord and the KIM, will be developed in the coming years into a modern accommodation location for personnel of the Royal Navy.

The development framework reflects the spatial principles for further plan development and offers architects a clear guideline. It is not a fixed design, but shows how buildings and functions can come together in the area in a good way. A trial allotment shows that the new accommodation location is feasible within the set conditions.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will shortly submit the development framework to the municipal council for decision-making. For Defence, the document forms an important basis for the further elaboration of the Buitenveld Project Proposal.

The ambition is to start construction in 2028 and complete it by the end of 2029 or early 2030. Preparatory work, such as the modification of the quays, will start prior to this.
