Moorman Bridge

Introduction

The current Moorman Bridge from 1954 is outdated and needs to be replaced around 2030. The new bridge will be located approximately 700 meters southeast, in the Nieuwe Diep. This will give seagoing vessels free passage on both sides of the quay, providing extra space and development opportunities for berths.

The new location will fulfill a large part of the civilian and military need. In addition, the relocation of the Moorman Bridge will ensure better traffic flow and less congestion in the city center. This is important for the accessibility, mobility and quality of life of the entire area.

Insight into what it yields

In addition to improving accessibility, mobility and quality of life, relocating the Moorman Bridge also offers economic benefits. This relocation creates obstacle-free access for seagoing vessels on both sides of the quay. This leads to a greater mooring capacity and thus development opportunities for both the civilian and naval port.
Moreover, the relocation of the Moorman Bridge, in combination with the Ravelijn Bridge, will also have a positive effect on the traffic flow and intensity of the city center, and ensure a smooth and safe connecting road from the Ravelijn roundabout to the TESO ferry port. This makes Den Helder an attractive municipality for both the business climate and tourism. Both contribute to an economically vital Den Helder.
